The Colgate Country Showdown is designed to find the most promising country music talent in America and to give these performers a chance to launch their professional music careers. It has become a reliable source of rising country music stars.

River Country 96.7 of Newport is hosting this local competition. Ten finalists will be selected to compete on stage Saturday, June 5 beginning at 5 p.m. at Portfest. The winner will move onto the state competition. To enter, submit your entry on CD or cassette to:

An application must accompany the song you plan to perform if chosen to compete. Applications and local rules can be obtained by going online to www.rivercountry967.com or by picking one up at the River Country studios at 2025 McLarty Drive in Newport. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2010.

The Showdown is open to vocal and/or instrumental performers, individuals or groups of up to seven members who have not performed on a record listed in the national record charts of Billboard, Radio & Records or the Gavin Report within 18 months preceding the local competition.
